SARAH EBERLE
A Postcard from Sicily
THE GARDEN

“Sicily is culturally and botanically rich, with a history of diversity and resilience. Mount Etna is the spiritual heart of the eastern coast, an endless source of inspiration whose significance extends far beyond the design of this garden. The rich and fertile volcanic soils, combined with rainfall, have allowed a variety of plants from many continents to thrive for centuries. The terracotta jar for olives placed in the garden evokes both olive oil and wine production. The octopus reflects the marine life surrounding Sicily’s coasts. And, of course, lemon trees are also represented. The title ‘A Postcard from Sicily’ expresses how the garden aims to capture the essence of this wonderful land.”
This is how Sarah Eberle introduces her garden—a project born from her long-standing connection with Sicilian nurseries and her continuous presence at the festival, where she has been a patron since its very first edition. Her design is a tribute to the unique, strong, and thriving nature of a land that serves as a source of creative inspiration and much more.
“I have had the pleasure of knowing and working with Sarah Eberle for over 20 years, since this park was still just a dream. Through our frequent conversations, the idea has evolved not only into a botanical park but also into a more ambitious project—an entire festival dedicated to the Mediterranean landscape. With this gratitude, we enthusiastically welcome Sarah Eberle’s garden to this place, knowing we will have the privilege of sharing and preserving it. I thank her for the passion and generosity she has dedicated to this project, making all these years of friendship tangible,” comments Mario Faro, founder of the Biennale and CEO of Radicepura.
