2017 Edition
Mediterranean Essence

On April 21, 2017, the first edition of the Radicepura Garden Festival was inaugurated, the first international event dedicated to garden design and landscape architecture of the Mediterranean.

The festival, promoted by the Radicepura Foundation in Giarre (Ct) and Piante Faro, involved young designers, institutions, businesses, major figures in landscape architecture, art, and architecture. Fourteen gardens were created with the most original plants cultivated by Piante Faro, which hosts 800 species and over 5,000 varieties.
The heart of the festival was the celebration of the garden, not only in its aesthetic and cultural significance but also for its role as an ideal place to stop and admire the beauty, in this case, of the Sicilian Region, through the interpretation of the Mediterranean Experience, the theme of the first edition of the festival. This was an event capable of combining art, food and wine culture, and environmental protection, as constituent elements of an extraordinary territory.

The first edition of the festival featured four internationally renowned garden designers who created site-specific gardens of about 150 square meters each: Michel Péna, Stefano Passerotti, Kamelia Bin Zaal, and James Basson. Six other gardens, smaller in size, ranging between 30 and 50 square meters, were created by young landscapers selected through an international call for proposals. In addition to the ten gardens, Radicepura hosted four special plant installations throughout the duration of the festival.
